Asus one-ups netbook competition with aluminium Eee

Asus was one of the driving forces of the netbook revolution with its line of Eee netbooks. Since the first very small netbooks from Asus launched the company has gone on to attempt to offer what seems to be a netbook model for everyone.

Asus offers so many different netbooks at this point that it is often difficult to tell the difference between some of its models. Asus has added yet another netbook to its Eee family called the Eee PC 1002HAE. The machine has the expected 160GB HDD Intel Atom N280 and 1GB of RAM.

The little machine uses a 10-inch LCD with a 1024 x 600 resolution display. Power comes from a paltry 4200mAh battery that is good for 3.8 hours of use well below the runtime offered by other Asus netbooks like the 1000HE.

The machine gets the new chicklet-style keyboard that places the right shift key where it is meant to be and is 92% of full size. The biggest difference between the 1002HAE and other netbooks Asus already offers is new colors. The machine will ship in deep red dark blue and metal gray aluminum. That red clad machine is one of the sexiest netbooks I have ever seen. Apparently the machines will only be offered in Japan for now at undisclosed pricing – but we’ve asked ASUS Australia whether it’ll be released here and will update the story when we hear.
